Record a Snare Drum with 2 microphones / Recording Studio Vancouver

Here’s a simple recording tip for a better snare sound!

If you have been using 1 microphone on the snare drum to record and find you’re not picking up enough of the bottom of the snare, try adding a 2nd mic under the drum and reverse the phase on your preamp..this will give you a nice bright snap from the snare drum and you will have 2 tracks of snare to mix,

Then add some bottom end to the top snare track this will give you a nice fat snare tone.

Microphone for Recording Live Drums – Vancouver BC

Hey it’s Phil back to give you another recording tip and more specifically for recording drums!

This time it’s about a Crown PZM  Pressure Zone Microphone  I used to record live drums;

and wow…it gave me crystal clear high frequencies.

I stuck a Pair to the walls of the studio and they complimented the recording with very nice ambient tones.

Radio shack used to sell these microphones for cheap…the Crown PZM  Pressure Zone Microphones give you XLR Balanced input, and are Phantom powered, giving very low noise .

I have also tried these mics on the floor with great results.

And finally, you can also try using them on an acoustic guitar,  to pick up the room a bit!

Well that’s it for this recording tip, if you want to see more be sure to check out www.soundmarketingrecording.com
