The API 512c is a mic / line / instrument preamp, very low noise, it has XLR/1/4″ inputs, also has a pad/48 v phantom power/mic/line buttons on the front panel, for the money these preamps rock, very smooth sound with lots of headroom 2 thumbs up
If you get a chance to record with one or more of these you won’t be sorry…

Hey Everyone, here’s another review on a great piece of recording gear, from Producer Phil at Sound Marketing Recording Studios in Vancouver BC.
A friend of mine lent me his Avalon AD 2044 Class A Tube Compressor ( Thanks Gord ),
This compressor is so transparent, I have been recording Vocals with it and getting awesome results, I was using extreme compression on one of the tracks, I thought it would sound very squashed and lifeless…
To my surprise the track sounded very warm with lots of air and dynamics, unlike most low end software Plug-in compressors (which it is not).
Next I`ll use it as a buss compressor ( sending the whole mix though it )
Can`t wait to hear the mix-down, I will defiantly miss this compressor when it goes home : (

I am using some Apex 165 mini condenser microphones for recording drums { Toms mainly } with excellent sonic results, the recordings came out sounding really good considering these are very inexpensive mic’s.
I have also used them in live situations with good results.
The only negative I found was that the gooseneck clip was kind of wimpy!
The mic’s tend to move around alot, I found a quick fix for this problem, I used some velcro straps to hold them in place.
Next time you need to mic up a kit and need some decent mic’s on a budget try these out you’ll be surprised at how go they sound..

Hey Guys,
A while back I rented a ART Pro VLA II Stereo tube Leveler from Long And Mcquade…this thing Rocks for the $$$ only $315.00 new…It has really nice compression and if you need heavy limiting it can handle it……Dr. Phil gives it 2 thumbs up…I purchased the rental unit I had and found 2 more on craigslist for $125.00 these are the older mark 1 units but they sound the same. they have a couple less features then the VLA II,I use them as Buss Comps on the console for mixdown…sweet….also Tracking Drums and Bass…Very Warm….these things are like the poor man’s LA-2A’s…LOL…( FYI:LA-2a’s are worth around $5,000.00 and are only 1 Channel )
